Hear why Dark Horse exists

Dr Elena Emma — PhD in Management, Crisis Coach, and serial entrepreneur — explains the gap she saw in the startup ecosystem and why she built Dark Horse Stable Fund to close it.

"The startup world is full of dark horses. They just need someone to believe in them first."

The startup ecosystem
leaves most people behind

Most funding and incubation infrastructure is built for tech founders who already have resources, networks, and experience. Everyone else is left to figure it out alone.

Under-resourced entrepreneur

Industry Gap

Most incubators and funds overlook and undervalue non-tech projects, leaving them chronically underfunded regardless of their merit.

Support Gap

First-time founders lack the psychological and mental support needed to withstand the intense pressures of building a startup from scratch.

Social Gap

Vulnerable social groups — migrants, retirees, caregivers, neurodivergent individuals — receive little to no direct support from existing incubators.

Expectation Gap

New entrepreneurs struggle to access the same quality of support available to experienced founders, creating a compounding disadvantage from day one.

Built differently,
for people who need it most

Our Vision

To help under-resourced individuals and startups grow together.

Our Mission

To create a nurturing and productive environment where under-resourced individuals can build their visions — combining academia, hands-on experience, coaching, and investor introductions.

Our Impact

We aim to provide accessible applied entrepreneurship education and research, focused on sustainable long-term industry growth, countering the prevailing trend of short-term gains and tech-centric scaling.

Our solution is to combine a pre-seed startup fund, a one-year incubation program, and a research lab — all designed specifically for under-resourced entrepreneurs. Our model provides funding, long-term support, and evidence-based tools to founders who are often overlooked by traditional startup ecosystems.

We serve those everyone else skips

Diverse entrepreneurs

Our participant market is intentionally broad — united not by industry or background, but by the shared experience of being overlooked.

  • First-time business owners
  • Business students seeking applied learning
  • Entrepreneurs with multiple failures
  • Post-military trainees & ex-convicts
  • Mompreneurs & students with young children
  • High school students
  • Neurodivergent individuals
  • Retirees
  • Migrants and vulnerable social groups

A data-driven approach
to funding

We don't take equity from startups at entry. Instead, we sign investment contracts, run participants through our incubation program, and give each startup three years to buy out the contract — or allow conversion into equity.

We target large-scale venture funds, family offices, and multinational corporations as fund contributors. Tokenization for crypto investors is also available.

The "Crumbs" Fundraising Method

We calculate our fundraising ask from each investor using a statistical method based on their own portfolio data — keeping our request realistic, within industry norms, and measurably reducing your risk.

We don't take equity from startups
  1. 1We request an anonymous list of your investment transactions
  2. 2We calculate the standard deviation (σ) of investment sizes
  3. 3Our fundraising request = ½ of that standard deviation
  4. 4Result: a data-backed ask calibrated to your portfolio

Example: Portfolio σ of $3,573,321 → fundraising request of ~$1,786,661.

One year. Real results.

Our incubation method combines hands-on experimentation with academic curriculum and executive coaching — for tech and non-tech ideas alike. Delivered virtually for worldwide access. Patent-pending methodology rooted in PhD research.

Process & Coaching Based

Built on the founder's PhD-researched theories on startup development and transitional coaching. Uniquely structured, tested across diverse cohorts, and patent-pending.

Long-term Oriented

A full year allows founders to genuinely learn how to build and sustain a business — not just survive a 12-week sprint. We prioritise depth over speed.

Academically Backed

Participants earn a Graduate Certificate in Applied Entrepreneurship or Applied Intrapreneurship upon completion — a credential with real institutional weight.

Virtually Located

Delivered entirely via online platforms — removing geographic barriers entirely. A founder in Lagos has the same access as one in London.

Incubation Business Model

Direct

Incubation advertised, sold, and delivered directly through Dark Horse to participants globally.

White Label

Institutions and corporations advertise and sell the program — we deliver it. Their brand, our methodology.

Licensing

Organisations license the methodology, train certified facilitators, and deploy it independently at scale.

Where theory meets
application

10% of every fund cycle goes directly into our Research Lab — advancing both the tech projects we incubate and the underlying science of entrepreneurship.

Tech Projects

  • Virtual voice mental health coach for students and junior employees
  • Blockchain/NFT-based global open registration platform for intellectual property
  • NFT-based idea auction platform for all types of ideas
  • Web-based comprehensive business health diagnostics for startups (Beta)

Theory & Experimentation

  • Implementation of dynamic art therapy in business education
  • Utilizing existential scale for development of social entrepreneurship
  • Further testing and refinement of the universal long-term incubation methodology

Structured for the way you invest

Whether you're a venture fund, family office, or multinational corporation, Dark Horse is designed to fit within your existing portfolio framework.

What if the next unicorn isn't where everyone is looking?

Most VC portfolios follow the same playbook — the same sectors, the same founder profiles, the same coastal ecosystems. It's not a strategy, it's groupthink. And when everyone is chasing the same deal flow, the truly exceptional opportunities sit quietly on the periphery, unfunded and overlooked.

Dark Horse Stable Fund exists precisely in that space. We back the founders no one else is paying attention to — non-tech, under-resourced, industry-agnostic — and we put them through a rigorous, academically-backed incubation process before capital is fully deployed. If your portfolio looks like everyone else's, it might be time to ask why.

  • 100 startups per cycle across non-tech industries — deal flow your competitors aren't seeing
  • Data-driven ask calibrated to your own portfolio's standard deviation — no inflated round numbers
  • Contract-based exits with 3-year buyout windows — predictable return timelines
  • Structured incubation before full deployment — risk managed, not ignored
  • Tokenization available for crypto-native fund structures

Leave a legacy that goes beyond financial return

Family offices think in generations, not quarters. Dark Horse Stable Fund speaks that language. When you invest here, you're not just deploying capital — you're building a legacy of having believed in people that the rest of the world overlooked.

The entrepreneurs we back — migrants rebuilding their lives, retirees with decades of expertise, neurodivergent founders with extraordinary ideas, parents building something while raising children — these are the people whose success stories endure. Your investment in them is a statement about what your family stands for.

  • Impact that is human, visible, and stories worth telling across generations
  • Academic research component creates intellectual legacy — knowledge that outlasts any single fund cycle
  • Long-term orientation and patient capital structure aligns naturally with family office philosophy
  • No upfront equity taken from startups — ethical, founder-aligned, and reputationally sound
  • 100 entrepreneurs per cycle given a genuine chance — measurable, reportable social impact
